Rival Yachts are classics. The 38, designed by Peter Brett, who raced his personal yacht with considerable success, winning the 1976 OSTAR single handed transatlantic race, one of the roughest, in which only 76 finishers made it out of 125 entries.
Brett created one of the last designs to incorporate a traditional stem and stern, the resulting lines, so easy on the eye yet managing to provide an interior of spacious elegance. There were 68 of this model built,
Three cabins provide accommodation for six, the galley is a good sea going layout and the navigation station shows the hall marks of having been designed by a practical sailor, as were the saloon and forward and aft heads
Ranger has had a lot of work carried out in the current ownership with a recent Beta 50hp inboard diesel engine and replacement boom ((removal of in-mast furling), the mainsail and head sail were replaced at the same time) to name but a few. Coppercoated in 2022 she was out of the water in July 2024 for a survey which is available on request

Ranger comes with everything needed for longer passages with Chartplotter, GPS, Log Wind and Speed as well as Autopilot, AIS and Radar.
Included in the sale is a full inventory of safety equipment including Life Raft, Danbouy, Lifebouy, Flares and Fire Extinguishers and Flares. However Fox's Yacht Sales recommend that these are either serviced or updated by the purchaser.
In addition to the Canvas work which is in fair order, she comes with warps and fenders as well as windlass operated from the helm, navigation lights. a full complement of recently updated lewmar winches and lots more
The Mast was replaced in 2014 when the inmast furling was removed. The sails were replaced with Dacron Main and Head Sail. The standing rigging was inspected in March 2020.
During the survey in July 2024 it was noted that there were Osmosis blisters present. As the hull had been Coppercoated in 2022 this was deemed to be long standing. However the hull was found to be structurally good with no signs or undue stress or deflection.
A new Beta Marine 50hp inboard diesel engine was fitted early in the current ownership. The engine meter showed 947.6 hours at time of survey with little use since
